The Paint Your Pet class is a really special event and the Southern Misfit Studios is one of the only art studios that offer this service. It’s very niche and has proven itself to be a fan-favorite over the years.

How the process works: promptly after registering, the customer will email a high quality photograph of their pet to the instructor’s email (juleahxx@gmail.com) and the instructor will reference this submitted image to illustrate a pencil drawing on a 16” x 20” canvas. During class, everyone fills in their pre-drawn canvas with acrylic paint almost like a paint-by-number. The class instructor guides guests through the process and helps with individual needs of each painter, sometimes it’s using a special “hair” brush, sometimes it’s assisting with the glimmer in the pets’ eye. So all the painter is focusing on during the class is colors and filling in their canvas drawings, they don’t have to worry about the proportions or accuracy because that is taken care of with these pre-sketched, one-of-a-kind canvases.

These paintings always turn out really impressive since that intimidating layer of mapping out accurate proportions is completed already, leaving the guests to fill the drawing in with paint almost in a paint-by-number format. We like to think of this painting as the perfect combination of hiring an artist for a pet commission and customizing your own painting.
