March 2025 marks the end of an era for us at Southern Misfit Studios, as we bid a bittersweet farewell to Monkey Wrench Brewing, who will be closing their doors at the end of the month. This news hits especially hard for us, as Monkey Wrench has been not just a venue but a true partner in our small business journey.

Our very first event as Southern Misfit Studios was held at Monkey Wrench in July 2022. Hard to believe that in just a few short months, we would have celebrated three amazing years of collaboration — half of which has been spent growing together. From the very beginning, they took a chance on us, a leap of faith that gave us the confidence to pursue this path full time. For the first few months of our business, we exclusively hosted events at Monkey Wrench, and since then, we’ve held 1-2 art classes a month at this incredible space. Our biggest public event to date was a Bob Ross class at Monkey Wrench with 35 students! Monkey Wrench is also where we launched the concept of family-friendly events called “Craft-ernoons”, an idea brought to us by Jane Baxter, the owner’s wife! :)

The community we’ve built at Monkey Wrench has been nothing short of magical. The people who walk through their doors are truly special — relaxed, welcoming, and passionate about art. Over the years, we’ve bonded with so many of you through our art markets, classes, fundraisers, and birthday celebrations. Monkey Wrench was a place where we felt not just supported, but loved. It was a home. It was a space where art and community blended together effortlessly.

In fact, last year, Juleah, our owner, celebrated her 25th birthday with a class at Monkey Wrench, a perfect example of how personal and special this place has been for all of us. We’ve seen familiar faces month after month, and we know how much this place has meant to so many of you, too. It’s not just the events, it’s the people — our regulars, those who show up time and time again to share in the creative process, that made Monkey Wrench feel like more than just a venue. It felt like family!

As we look ahead to our other events across Atlanta, our hearts remain heavy as we say goodbye to Suwanee’s hidden gem. While we’re excited about the future, Monkey Wrench’s closure leaves a hole that won’t be easy to fill. The sense of community we created there was unmatched, and it’s something we’ll carry with us always. It will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.

Thank you, Monkey Wrench Brewing, for everything. And to all of you who have supported us over the years, we hope to see you at our future events — but know this: you’ll always have a special place in our hearts and we hope to see you at other events. ❤️

Below are some snapshots from nearly 100 events we've shared together. You might just spot yourself or a loved one in these moments — we hope you enjoy the memories as much as we do.
